Adding to a string of summer lateral hires, Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel has brought on a partner from Dilworth Paxson to kickstart a new niche practice area.

Thomas Wyatt joined Obermayer after nearly five years as a partner at Dilworth Paxson. He also has experience in-house with American Water. In his practice, he represents utilities and municipal authorities in water and wastewater system sales, leasebacks and other monetization efforts.

The new practice group he will lead is part of the larger business and finance practice group.

“The firm is very energetic about this area of the law. They have deep and longstanding relationships with municipalities across the commonwealth, a strong environmental practice and a strong platform in Pittsburgh,” Wyatt said in an interview Tuesday. “It gives me the opportunity to take my practice to the next level.”

David Nasatir, chair of Obermayer's business and finance practice, said in a statement that Wyatt is considered a leading authority in utility sales.

“As we continue to think about more ground-breaking ways to enhance how we serve our municipal clients, having a bright and dynamic attorney like Tom to lead such an important and highly nuanced practice area only furthers our agenda to not only be a great Philadelphia firm, but to also be the go-to mid-Atlantic regional firm,” he said.

Wyatt is part of a larger cohort of new lateral hires at the midsize, Philadelphia-based firm.

Also this week, Obermayer announced that Nate Fox had joined its Doylestown office, coming from Offit Kurman. He will lead the firm's zoning and land use team in Bucks County.

According to Obermayer, Fox will bring with him a number of clients, including American Heritage Federal Credit Union, Grace Inspired Ministries, Grand View Health, The Dreher Group and THP Investments LLC.

Earlier this month, Obermayer brought on real estate and land use partner Kellie McGowan, also in Doylestown. She came from Eastburn & Gray, a law firm with offices in Doylestown and Blue Bell that was founded in 1877. According to her new firm, her clients include Univest Bank, Gorski Engineering Inc. Airgas USA LLC and Doylestown Health.

The firm also suffered a loss in that practice in May, when former zoning and land use practice leader Hercules Grigos left for Klehr Harrison Harvey Branzburg.

McGowan and Fox closely followed partners Matthew Olesh and W. Patrick Scott in the commercial litigation, business and finance and public finance practices, who joined Obermayer in June from Chamberlain Hrdlicka and MacElree Harvey, respectively.

Reached Tuesday by email, Dilworth Paxson CEO Ajay Raju declined to comment on Wyatt's departure.

A spokesman for Offit Kurman did not respond to a request for comment on Fox's move. Eastburn and Gray president Rodman Eastburn also did not respond to a request for comment on McGowan's move.
