White & Case has brought on corporate partner Tali Sealman from Cooley in an effort to regrow its stable of Silicon Valley dealmakers.
Sealman joined White & Case's mergers and acquisitions practice as a partner Tuesday. She will split her time between the firm's Silicon Valley and Los Angeles offices.
"The firm is committed to growing the tech and life sciences practices and my arrival is part of this effort," Sealman said in an email response. "We plan to continue this expansion, especially as our clients grow and we need to address their needs to deliver the highest quality service."
Sealman practiced at Cooley for more than 14 years prior to the move. Her practice is in corporate and securities law, with a focus on emerging growth companies and mergers and acquisitions. Sealman works with clients in the software, blockchain, health care, enterprise, cleantech, internet and fintech industries.
"As my clients' businesses grow and change, so do their goals. And whether it's transactional or more general, I'm excited to leverage the firm's tech and life sciences expertise and global platform to better serve my clients and help them achieve their various goals," she added.
During her time at Cooley, some of the deals she worked on include advising the firm's longtime client SeatGeek on its $57 million Series D financing round and concurrent acquisition of Israeli-based ticketing software company TopTix for $56 million, and representing medical device company ZELTIQ Aesthetics on on its approximately $2.5 billion all-cash sale to biopharmaceutical company Allergan.
Sealman said the "vast majority" of her clients are excited about the opportunity to continue work with her at White & Case.
"Tali offers deep M&A, venture financing and emerging companies expertise," said Heather Burke, office executive partner for White & Case's Silicon Valley location. "Her arrival expands our transaction capabilities on the ground in Silicon Valley, and we are very excited to welcome her to our team."
Sealman is the second partner to join White & Case's Silicon Valley office this year, following the arrival of capital markets partner Maia Gez in May. Gez joined the firm from Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
The firm's Silicon Valley office experienced a significant loss in February when technology lawyer William Choe took a team of corporate attorneys with him to Paul Hastings. According to White & Case's website, it now has a total of 28 attorneys based in the Silicon Valley office, including 10 partners.
Cooley did not respond to a request for comment regarding Sealman's departure.
