Raft of firms advise on £4.5bn London regeneration project

A raft of firms including Nabarro, Herbert Smith and Eversheds have gained lead roles on the planned £4.5bn Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration scheme, which was signed off by Barnet Council late last month (28 October). Nabarro advised BXC Development Partners - Hammerson and Standard Life Investments - in relation to the planning application for the new town centre, which is expected to bring 27,000 jobs and 7,500 homes.

Herbert Smith and SJB lead on £448m sale of Crown Estate London portfolio

Herbert Smith and SJ Berwin have won lead roles as Norway's Norges Bank Investment Management agrees to buy a 25% stake in the Queen's Regent Street property portfolio for almost half a billion pounds. The deal is expected to see Norges, which manages the Norwegian Government Pension Fund Global, pay £448m to buy the 150-year lease on the property portfolio from The Crown Estate. It marks the fund's first investment in real estate since the Norwegian Government gave permission to invest in the class on 1 March.

Freshfields and A&O handle HSBC's £2.1bn private equity rail sale

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Allen & Overy (A&O) are advising on a £2.1bn deal that will see HSBC sell its train-leasing business Eversholt Rail Group to a private equity consortium, reports The Am Law Daily. The consortium - which comprises 3i Group, Star Capital Partners and Morgan Stanley's infrastructure group - is being advised by an A&O team led by banking partner Jonathan Bevan and corporate partner Susan Howard. A&O also advised on the 2008 financing and acquisition of Angel Trains by a consortium of investors from the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Linklaters and Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom have lined up on the $420m (£260m) initial public offering (IPO) of Russian food retailer O'Key, in one of the first listings by a Russian company in London since the financial crisis. Slaughters and White & Case lead on $5.9bn Spanish-Turkish bank deal

Slaughter and May and White & Case have won lead roles on a $5.9bn (£3.6bn) deal involving Spanish and Turkish banks, reports The Am Law Daily. Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentina (BBVA), Spain's second-largest bank, is acquiring a 24.9% stake in Turkiye Garanti Bankasi, Turkey's leading bank. BBVA will purchase 18.6% of the stake in Garanti from GE Capital for $3.8bn (£2.3bn), while the other 6.3% will come from Turkey's Dogus Holdings for $2.1bn (£1.3bn).

SNR Denton has won a lead role on a major South American deal which has seen JP Morgan step up its commitment to emerging markets by taking a majority stake in a $6bn (£4bn) Brazilian hedge fund. Highbridge Capital Management, an asset management firm owned by JP Morgan, yesterday (27 October) announced the purchase of a 55% stake in hedge fund and private equity firm Gavea, which is headed up by Brazil's former central bank chief, Arminio Fraga.
