SJB finance recruit helps to sign off $225m private equity restructuring

SJ Berwin finance partner Ian Borman has completed his first major deal since joining the UK top 20 firm in September from Allen & Overy (A&O), advising private equity firm APEN on its restructuring and $225m (£135m) fund raising. The deal saw ex-A&O partner Borman advising alongside private equity partner Jonathan Pittal for APEN (previously AIG Private Equity) on the deal, which included the restructuring of its private equity fund portfolio and the raising of new finance from Fortress Credit Crop and a Swiss bank.

Hammonds has secured a role acting as sole adviser to luxury retailer Cath Kidston for intellectual property (IP), branding and trademark work. The appointment officially started this month following a competitive tender process. It will see Hammonds' pan-European brands group advising the homeware, fashion and accessory retailer on all IP matters, branding advisory, commercial contract and trademark strategy work.

Lovells leads for Babcock & Brown on £1bn recapitalisation

Lovells has taken the lead role for Australian group Babcock & Brown Infrastructure (BBI) as it completes a A$1.8bn (£1bn) recapitalisation, signing up Brookfield Asset Management as a new cornerstone investor. Corporate partner Steven Bryan led the team on the deal, which sees Canadian investor Brookfield acquire a 39.9% stake in BBI, as well as certain assets including the UK PD Ports Business.

Dechert leads on $190m rights sale of experimental pain drug

Dechert's London office has won a role advising new client PanGenetics on its $190m (£114m) sale of global rights for an experimental drug to US pharmaceutical company Abbott Laboratories. The US firm has been drafted in to advise antibody engineering company PanGenetics on the sale of a drug used for chronic pain called PG110. The sale will see Abbott acquire the rights to the drug for an upfront payment of $170m (£102m), with additional milestone payments taking the figure to $190m (£114m). The deal equates to selling off part of the company that will house the drug for Abbott.

A raft of UK and US firms, including White & Case, Bingham McCutchen, Allen & Overy (A&O) and Slaughter and May, are advising on the UK's largest ever pre-pack administration. Wind Hellas, one of Greece's largest mobile phone operators, filed for administration with the English High Court earlier this month, with parent company Weather Investments set to rescue the business.
