Former Hogan City chief opts for post-merger move to US firm

Former Hogan & Hartson City chief Gary Pegg is set to leave the newly-merged Hogan Lovells to join King & Spalding as co-managing partner. Pegg, the co-chair of Hogan Lovells' global energy and natural resources practice, will share his new role with existing managing partner John Keffer. He joins the US firm alongside a team of four Hogan Lovells energy lawyers comprising partner Hywel Jones, counsel Nina Howell and associates Leon Sosnowski and Susanna Marshall.

Italy: The run for the sun

The production of energy from photovoltaic sources in Italy has been incentivised through the so-called "Energy Bill" scheme. This scheme provides for the application of tariffs for legally established amounts at an uneven level, and depends on the quantity of energy produced by the benefiting entity. The fixed tariff system was reformed by the Ministerial Decree of February 19, 2007, which has removed numerous limitations and hindrances to the application of the incentives provided for by previously passed regulations.

Linklaters and Dewey & LeBoeuf have taken lead roles on a $1.34bn (£907m) cross-border mining deal which is set to see Indian mining group Vedanta Resources become the world's largest zinc producer. The deal sees Vedanta purchase three zinc mines from rival conglomerate Anglo American, including the Skorpion mine in Namibia, Lisheen in Ireland and a 74% stake in Black Mountain in South Africa.

No lack of resources - ENRC's legal chief in profile

While most companies have spent the recession battening down the hatches, the Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) has been in expansion mode. Last month the FTSE 100 natural resources company, whose main assets are located in Kazakhstan, underlined its intentions to go global by purchasing a 12% stake in Northern Platinum, a South African platinum company. The move follows ENRC's acquisition last year of Camec, a copper and cobalt producer in the Democratic Republic of Congo, for £584m and prior purchase of 50% stakes in Brazil's BML iron ore project and the Xinjiang Tuoli Taihang Ferro-Alloy ferrochrome operations in China.
