In-housers reluctant to use external lawyers

Corporate counsel are increasingly reticent to use external lawyers for general litigation advice, according to a new survey by accountancy firm Grant Thornton. While law firms feel that in-house lawyers should contact them early on in proceedings, the majority (55%) of in-house lawyers said the only time they turn to external lawyers is when proceedings are inevitable. Only 3% said they would speak to external lawyers to reach a faster settlement.
