Linklaters partner duo quit to join Indian referral practice

Two partners from Linklaters' India group have stepped down to join the City giant's local referral partner Talwar Thakore & Associates (TT&A). Singapore-based finance partner Narayan Iyer and Hong Kong corporate partner Kunal Thakore will join the partnership at TT&A on 1 December. Iyer and Thakore were founding members of the magic circle law firm's India group, joining Linklaters in 1996 and 2000 respectively.

DLA Piper projects partner joins firm's Australian ally in Brisbane

DLA Piper's Australian ally has added a second partner in a week from the UK firm with the hire of public-private partnership (PPP) specialist Alex Guy. Guy, who is a partner in DLA Piper's London office, is set to relocate to DLA Phillips Fox's Brisbane office, where he will advise on projects across Australia, New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region while also strengthening co-operation with DLA's Asia practice. He will take up the new role as of 1 January 2010.

DLA Piper's Dubai head is leaving to take up a new role as chief executive of the firm's Australian alliance partner. Tony Holland, who also heads DLA's regional finance practice in the Middle East, has accepted an offer to join DLA Phillips Fox and will take on the CEO role 15 February 2010. DLA Piper has yet to name a new Dubai managing partner and regional finance head to succeed Holland.

Law Society heads up Korea push as EU seals trade agreement

The Law Society is stepping up its activities in South Korea after the EU signed a free trade agreement (FTA) with the country earlier this month (15 October). The society has been pushing for legal services to be included in the FTA, and with this objective achieved, the Korean legal market could be opened up to European firms. The FTA could be ratified as early as next year, allowing for the three-stage deregulation of the market to start.

Partners eye rapid revenue growth in Asia

At a time when many City firms cite Asia as their best opportunity for growth, nearly half of partners are predicting double-digit revenue hikes in the region over the next 12 months. The latest Legal Week Big Question survey found that some 47% of partners believe they will see Asian revenues increase by more than 10% over the coming year, with 32% predicting turnover increases of between 10% and 15% and a further 16% expecting growth of more than 15%.
