Ashurst, Clifford Chance (CC) and DLA Piper have landed roles on the £300m sale of iconic shoe manufacturer Dr Martens to private equity firm Permira. CC acted for longstanding client Permira, which has agreed to buy R Griggs Group, the parent company of the Dr Martens brand. CC fielded a team led by corporate partner David Pearson and banking partner Robert Lee.

Government must go boldly by building new launchpad for £9bn space sector

"Growing at almost 10% a year, as fast as the Chinese economy," is the speed at which science minister David Willetts described the growth of the UK space sector at the recent Conservative party conference. He complimented the sector as being "a remarkable success story of high-tech innovation". Yet I doubt the general public, or the City, would perceive the UK space industry to be one whose growth will help lead the UK out of recession. In fact, I doubt they think about it much at all.

Osborne Clarke (OC) has embarked on a drastic restructuring of its private client practice after its existing team jumped ship for Bond Dickinson this week. In response to the departures of private client and charity law partner Mark Woodward and property partner Robert Drewett, OC has outlined plans to create a small private wealth practice focused on high-net-worth (HNW) entrepreneurs and executives. Pensions partner and board member Paul Matthews will oversee the process. It is expected the firm will hire at least one new partner to head the team.

The deal is estimated to be worth around £450m.
