Linklaters and HSF lead on £1.3bn credit card mis-selling compensation deal

Linklaters and Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) have taken the lead legal roles on an agreement between the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Card Protection Plan (CPP) and 13 high street banks which could see £1.3bn returned to customers who were mis-sold insurance products. Seven million customers, who between them bought and renewed around 23 million policies covering card and identity protection, may now be entitled to compensation, after the parties settled on a 'redress bill'.

Ropes & Gray and Latham & Watkins have set out plans to expand their trainee programmes in London, as both firms post strong retention rates for their autumn qualifying intakes in the City. Ropes has retained all five of its newly qualified (NQ) lawyers - the first batch to qualify with the firm in the City - with the autumn intake including a number of ex-Dewey & LeBoeuf trainees cast adrift when the firm collapsed last year.

Eversheds and Travers Smith both advised on KPMG's planned London relocation from Salisbury Square to 30 North Colonnade in Canary Wharf. From 2015, KPMG will occupy 200,000 sq ft across the top eight floors of the building, which is owned in a joint venture by Fimalac and Hearst Corporation. Approximately 1,100 staff will be relocating to Canary Wharf to work alongside the 5,000 staff that is already based next door at 15 Canada Square.
