Links, Travers and Shoosmiths come out top in associate satisfaction poll

Linklaters and Norton Rose Fulbright have been rated as the law firms that associates at rivals would most like to work for, according to new research by Legal Week. Legal Week Intelligence's flagship Employee Satisfaction Report (ESR) this year found the pair ranked ahead of Slaughter and May, Allen & Overy (A&O) and Pinsent Masons as the five most popular firms to work for, as rated by peers at rival law firms. Norton Rose, A&O and Slaughters have been in the top five for the last three years of the survey, while Pinsents and Linklaters are new entrants this year, replacing Berwin Leighton Paisner and Clyde & Co.

Social media risk is not as exotic as it sounds. Many of the dangers organisations face from their own and their employees' use of social media are old risks in new channels. But we know that our clients need help and advice implementing robust social media policies and management frameworks. Because of this, we recently set-up a multi-disciplinary group to analyse and assess the legal risks associated with social media. Here are our recommendations: Consider three categories of use Social media risks aren't new. They are similar to – but potentially more extreme than – email risks. Just as an email can be forwarded, social media content can be republished. It can rapidly reach a huge audience: in the UK, Twitter has 10m active users and Facebook more than 30m, and the global figures are 200m and 1bn respectively. What may look like a small-scale incident can quickly escalate into hefty costs and damage to your reputation. You need to consider these three categories of use in order to get a good picture of your organisation's potential social media risks:

Trowers & Hamlins profits take a hit as 2012-13 revenue dips

Trowers & Hamlins has seen a dip in profits per equity partner (PEP) of 14% over the last year on the back of a drop in revenues and net profit. PEP for the 2012-13 year has slipped from £358,00 to £307,000 over the year, with net profit at the firm dropping 23% from £18.8m to £14.5m. Meanwhile the firm's revenue fell by 3% from £80.8m to £78.3m globally. The UK arm's net profit fell from £20.1m last year to £15.8m, marking a 21% drop in figures. Those at the top end of the equity earned £412,000, down by 17% on £496,000, while those at the bottom saw salaries fall by the same percentage from £198,000 to £165,000.

Farrers breaches £50m barrier with 2% climb in revenue

Farrer & Co has seen revenues hit £50m with a 2.4% increase for the 2012-13 financial year. The firm saw revenues increase to £50.8m from £49.6m in 2011-12, while profits per equity partner (PEP) now stands at £427,000 compared with £419,000 last year - an increase of 1.9%. The firm's equity ranges from £265,000 at the bottom to £560,000 for top earners.
