China's second largest law firm Yingke has launched an office in Israel this month via a merger with local firm Eyal Khayat Zolty, Neiger & Co. The Tel Aviv base, known as Yingke Israel - Eyal Khayat Zolty, Neiger & Co, is the 13th international branch for the Beijing head-quartered firm and its third new office-launch this year.

Shearman to pull plug on Munich and Duesseldorf offices

Shearman & Sterling is set to pull out of Munich and Duesseldorf by the end of the year, leaving the US firm with one remaining office in Germany. The office closures, confirmed today (23 April), will result in a number of partners relocating to Frankfurt - including Duesseldorf senior partner Georg Thoma. However, it is also expected to lead to a number of lawyers and staff leaving Shearman in Germany, with the firm still reviewing the possibility of redundancies. It is not yet clear how many positions could be affected.

Bird & Bird is mulling ambitious plans for further expansion in Asia, with openings in Indonesia and South Korea on the cards alongside plans to ramp up its existing offering in Malaysia. CMS Cameron McKenna has overhauled its partnership structure, speeding up the time it takes for junior partners to join the equity and allowing them to progress more quickly through the lockstep once there. The firm has scrapped its salaried partner rank to create a two-tier partnership comprising fixed-share and full-equity partners, with the overhaul set to see around 65 salaried partners (currently known as office partners) putting in capital to join a single 75-strong fixed-share rank.
