Norton Rose and Herbert Smith confirm autumn NQ retention rates

Herbert Smith and Norton Rose have both confirmed their trainee retention rates for this September's intake, with the former retaining 80% of its newly-qualified lawyers (NQs). Forty-five out of 56 trainees will be kept on at the firm this autumn, with the 80% figure static on last autumn's qualification round, when the firm took on 44 of 55 NQs. However, the retention rate is slightly down on this spring's intake, which saw 88% of NQs kept on.

A&O and Nabarro confirm retention rates for September NQ intakes

Allen & Overy has announced a 79% retention rate for its September 2012 batch of qualifiers. The magic circle firm is keeping on 46 out of a total of 58 of its newly-qualified lawyers (NQs) - a boost on last year when it kept on 39 out of 53 NQs, marking a retention rate of 74% for its September 2011 intake. However, it is down on its 89% March 2012 retention result.

Clifford Chance (CC), Reynolds Porter Chamberlain and Stephenson Harwood have all posted their autumn trainee retention rates, with all three seeing percentage decreases. CMS Cameron McKenna, Olswang and White & Case are among a number of law firms to have confirmed retention rates for their September intakes, with Olswang also unveiling changes to its trainee recruitment scheme. Camerons has announced an 84% retention rate, slightly up on the 81% kept on from the firm's March intake. Of 31 newly qualified (NQ) trainees, 26 took up positions at the firm after 29 were offered jobs. The March intake saw 25 of 31 NQs kept on.

Mayer Brown offers London trainees £10,000 to defer for one year

Mayer Brown has offered its incoming London trainees the option to defer their training contracts in exchange for a one-off payment of £10,000, with three agreeing to postpone their start date by 12 months. The US firm's London arm, which takes on between 20 and 25 trainees per year across two intakes in March and September, asked a total of 47 future trainees across four intakes to defer by a year due to business activity levels.
