5th Circuit Hears Former Enron CEO's Conviction AppealDaniel Petrocelli asked a 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel on Wednesday to throw out Jeffrey Skilling's conviction. The 2006 Houston trial in which Skilling was convicted on criminal counts related to the collapse of Houston's Enron Corp. was fundamentally unfair and defective, Petrocelli told the three judges.

Former Judge Sam Kent Serving Sentence in Home ConfinementAfter being in and out of prisons over the past week, Samuel Kent, a former federal judge in Galveston, was released on Aug. 1, according to one of his attorneys, to head to West Texas, where he will finish his 33-month prison sentence at home. Judge Sentences Skilling to 24 YearsAt a hearing on Monday where Jeffrey Skilling continued to proclaim his innocence, U.S. District Judge Sim Lake of Houston sentenced Skilling, the former chief executive officer of Houston's Enron Corp., to more than 24 years in prison. In May, a jury found Skilling guilty of 19 criminal charges stemming from the collapse of Enron, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2001.
