Top Take-Home Pay at Linklaters Drops Nearly 1 Million Pounds

Linklaters' highest-paid partner took home 2.5 million pounds ($4.15 million) in the 2008-09 financial year -- a drop of almost 1 million pounds ($1.6 million) from the previous year, according to accounts filed with Companies House last week. The accounts also show that the average number of partners within the firm?s LLP dropped from 368 to 358, while fee earner numbers also decreased marginally, falling from 2,644 in 2008 to 2,626 in 2009.

U.K. Firms Celebrate Double-Digit Growth

The U.K.'s top 100 law firms managed to shake off the effects of the economic downturn to maintain double-digit growth in the fourth quarter of the last financial year, according to research from Deloitte. The organization's quarterly survey found firms saw revenues grow by 12 percent over the period, giving the group an average increase in turnover for the full year of 13.2 percent. The fourth-quarter figures are marginally up on those in the previous quarter.

Salans Gets Approval for Beijing Office Launch

Salans is set to strengthen its Asian practice after getting the go-ahead to open a second office in mainland China. Matthias Mueller has been named as managing partner of the new office, which the People's Republic of China's Ministry of Justice awarded Salans a license to open. Mayer Brown is restructuring its London office, with up to 23 associates and 32 support staff expected to lose their jobs. On top of the cuts, the firm is also instituting a pay freeze for London staff and associates and is asking for trainees due to start at the firm in September 2009 to volunteer to defer until 2010. The firm said the restructuring was part of its strategy moving into 2009 and 2010 in response to the global recession.
