DLA Piper and Camerons to Appeal Against Fines for Bulgaria Competition Rule Breaks

DLA Piper and CMS Cameron McKenna have been hit with fines in Bulgaria after the country's competition commission ruled on July 22 that the firms are in breach of Bulgarian competition rules. The local arms of two Austrian firms were fined as well. About 15 local firms submitted complaints to the commission -- but this isn't the end of the matter. Peter Valert, head of DLA Piper's Sofia office, says they plan to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Administrative Court.

Cameron McKenna Teams With CMS Alliance Firms for Shanghai Launch

CMS Cameron McKenna is upping its focus on Asia, with the firm set to open in Shanghai through a merged office with its CMS allies. The firm has appointed Moscow-based real estate partner Steven Shone to lead the China initiative. Shone will relocate to Shanghai for the launch, which will see Cameron set up a combined office with French ally CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre and German ally CMS Hasche Sigle. Both alliance firms currently operate independent offices in Shanghai.

Salans and Proskauer Rose Partners Team Up to Launch New Firm in Paris

Lawyers from the Paris offices of Proskauer Rose and Salans have teamed up to launch a new independent law firm in the French capital. Salans has lost a total of 15 lawyers and Proskauer nine to the new 31-lawyer firm, Altana, which was launched on Nov. 2. Of the 21 lawyers, there were five partners, one of counsel and eight assistants from Salans, and two partners and five associates from Proskauer. Eleven members of the group join Altana as partners. Ten other assistants have also joined from other firms.
