Linklaters Hires for Amsterdam Insolvency Launch

Linklaters has launched a restructuring and insolvency practice in Amsterdam after hiring a senior lawyer from U.K. rival Simmons & Simmons. Paul Kuipers joins the Dutch arm of the Magic Circle firm Tuesday as a counsel. Kuipers was previously a partner at Simmons, where he specialized in corporate recovery work and debt restructuring, advising banks, creditors and debtors. The move comes as a number of major firms are looking to boost their insolvency practices ahead of an anticipated economic downturn.

Nordic independents Setterwalls and Hannes Snellman have picked up lead roles alongside Sullivan & Cromwell on the proposed merger of communications giants France Telecom and Telia Sonera. Mallesons Stephen Jaques has boosted its London M&A offering with the hire of Australian rival Minter Ellison's London managing partner Rob Hanley. Hanley is set to join Mallesons' London office on Sept. 15, where he will work closely with the firm's global M&A team. The two-partner office is headed by Rowan Russell. In addition to Hanley's hire, Mallesons is also planning to add to its London finance team with the transfer of banking and finance partner Adrienne Showering from Hong Kong next year.
