James H. Cantrell, CPM®, CAM
Mr. Cantrell has in excess of 45 years of asset and property management experience and
specializes in the turnaround of properties with deferred maintenance and
mismanagement. For both private and institutional investors, Mr. Cantrell has managed a
variety of product types, including rent-controlled multi-family, high-rise office,
industrial/warehouse properties, retail and large hotels. He has established hands-on
management programs that have maximized the values of the various investments.

Mr. Cantrell is the past President of Cantrell, Harris & Associates, a San Francisco-based
real estate management and consulting firm that was formed 30 years ago. He is currently
President of Cantrell Associates which provides property management, litigation support
and expert witness services. He began his career with Arlen Realty as a property
supervisor, handling properties in the United States Investment Fund Portfolio, and has
held the position of Equity Administrator with Clevetrust Realty Investors, responsible for managing numerous properties
throughout the Country. He also served as Treasurer of Regency Equities, a Real Estate Investment Trust, traded on NASDQE
and was also President of Plaza Equities Management, Inc., with a national portfolio of approximately $275 million of mixed
assets under his direction. Mr. Cantrell is a licensed CAM, Condominium Association Manager in the State of Florida.

Mr. Cantrell is a Certified Property Manager (CPM) and is quite active as a member of the Faculty of the Institute of Real Estate
Management (IREM) teaching courses throughout the country. His numerous professional activities and awards include:

• President of the San Francisco Chapter of the IREM (1989) and its Regional Vice President (1990-1992);

• Chairman of International Affairs for IREM (1993-1994) and in that capacity led the first delegation to the People's
Republic of China.

• Instructor for IREM, teaching numerous courses throughout the United States, Poland and Russia.

• Chairman of the Management Plan Committee for IREM (1995) and Grader of IREM management plans and MPSA’s
since the inception of the Management Plan Program in 1988, Member 2020 IREM National Conference Advisory Bd.

• Featured Speaker on “Developing and Implementing A Solid Emergency Plan.” at the NFMT (National Facility
Management & Technology Conference) conferences in Chicago (2007) and Baltimore (2008 and 2009);

• Contributing author to the John Wiley Handbook of Real Estate, published by John Wiley in 1984.

• Associate Professor and faculty member of Golden Gate University (1986-1996) teaching courses in the MBA Program
on property and asset management.

• Recipient of the 1987 Franklin H. Lyons Award "CPM Of the Year" and the 2001 and 2007 Instructor of the Year
awards by the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of IREM, 2011 CPM Emeritus award for service to IREM

• Appointed in Year 2009 by Mayor Gavin Newsom to the City of San Francisco “Existing Building Efficiency Initiative
Task Force”.

• Association of Defense Council Northern California & Nevada, Webinar 2020, “Selecting & working with experts”

• Court Appointed Receiver for properties in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Joaquin, Santa Clara, Alameda, San Mateo
Napa and Sonoma Counties in California. Realtor and California Real Estate Broker since 1986

• Recipient of 2013 Lloyd D. Hanford Sr. Distinguished Faculty Award from the Institute of Real Estate Management
(IREM) for extraordinary dedication to the educational process and the advancement of knowledge within the property
management profession. IREM committee writing The Glossary of Real Estate Terms 2022.

Mr. Cantrell holds a bachelor’s Degree in business administration from the University of Miami and is a licensed Real Estate
Broker in the State of California. Is a member of the San Francisco and California Association of REALTORS and the San
Francisco and California Apartment Associations. Also is a member of the FORENSIC EXPERT WITNESS ASSOCIATION
and was awarded 2018 Expert Witness -Real Estate by Lawyer Monthly.
