Bakers and Latham prepare Chinese investment bank for $2bn HK IPO

Baker & McKenzie and Latham & Watkins have taken lead roles for Chinese investment bank CITIC Securities on its $2bn (£1.3bn) Hong Kong listing, reports The Asian Lawyer. CITIC Securities, a subsidiary of state-owned investment company CITIC Group, is already listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The bank received regulatory approval from China's financial regulator, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, for a Hong Kong listing on 1 September.

Linklaters has grown its Paris arm with the hire of capital markets partner Patrice Doat from Gide Loyrette Nouel, marking the first lateral hire for the office in four years. Doat is set to join the firm with three associates on 1 September. He has been at the French outfit since 1994 and a partner since 2004.

Uria Menendez has taken the lead role for Spanish banking conglomerate Bankia on its €3bn (£2.6bn) initial public offering (IPO). The IPO, reportedly Spain's third-largest of all time, saw 824 million new shares made available at €3.75 per share, with trading on the Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Valencia stock exchanges kicking off on 20 July.

White & Case has strengthened its London capital markets group with the hire of a US securities duo from Latham & Watkins in a move that will also see the US firm re-enter the Italian market. London-based partners Michael Immordino and Ian Clark, who both handed in their notice earlier today (28 July), will be joining White & Case on Monday (1 August) after several weeks of discussions.

A&O dominates global bond rankings at halfway mark

Allen & Overy (A&O) has topped Thomson Reuters' debt capital markets (DCM) rankings for international cross-border bonds for the first half of 2011 by both manager and issuer. The firm advised managers on 238 bond deals worth $180bn (£110bn) during the period, giving it a 7.1% share of the market, ahead of Linklaters, which held a 3.5% share of the market, with roles on 117 deals worth $104bn (£63.8bn).

City partners hope for revival in capital markets after Greek bailout

City capital markets partners are optimistic that last week's €109bn (£96bn) Greek bailout will help increase deal activity in Europe's markets. The package, agreed little more than a year after an initial bailout last May, saw the heads of 17 eurozone governments agree a funding package that will also see private lenders asked to contribute, as well as including measures to cut debt interest rates for Greece, Ireland and Portugal.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Clifford Chance (CC) have advised on Global Ports Investments' $534m (£333m) flotation on the London 
Stock Exchange. Freshfields took the lead role for the Russian terminal operator on its initial public offering (IPO) on the main London market, with the firm's team including London-based Sarah Murphy, co-head of the firm's international capital markets practice, as well as Moscow partner Dmitry Surikov and a team of associates in London and Moscow.
