Dechert is to further bulk up its City arm with the hire of LG banking and finance partner Charles Malpass, with the recruitment marking Dechert's fifth partner hire in London since April. The highly-regarded partner is set to join Dechert's London banking and finance team in January next year along with associate Catherine Gooding.

Holman Fenwick Willan has grown its London corporate, projects and finance practice with the hire of Fulbright & Jaworski partner Susan Farmer. Farmer, who is US qualified, will join Holman Fenwick next week after four years in Fulbright's London office. She left Fulbright in August. Her practice focuses on the energy, natural resources and electric power sectors, with her hire taking the total number of partners in Holman Fenwick's London corporate, projects and finance practice to 12.

SJ Berwin is to add to its structured finance practice with the hire of a partner from Sidley Austin, doubling the team's partner capacity in London. Sidley finance partner Andrew Bliss, who is a UK-qualified solicitor in the US firm's London office, is set to join SJ Berwin's City finance group after being voted into the partnership on 7 October. Bliss, who joined Sidley in 1999, has a practice focused around structured finance deals, including the securitisation of loans and rental deposits, repackagings, and bond and equity-linked transactions in the developed and emerging markets.

LG is expanding its finance practice through the hire of Squire Sanders Hammonds partner Iain Shurwood, with the addition coming as the UK firm prepares to lose a trio of litigation partners. Shurwood will join LG next month, having been a partner at legacy Hammonds since 2008. He was previously a senior associate at Denton Wilde Sapte, which merged with US law firm Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal in September last year.

Barlow Lyde & Gilbert insurance partner Victoria Sherratt has opted to leave the firm ahead of its merger with Clyde & Co in favour of a move to Reynolds Porter Chamberlain (RPC). Sherratt will join RPC next month, marking the first Barlows partner departure to be announced since the firm's merger plans with Clydes went public this summer. Sherratt, who has been a partner in the insurance and reinsurance group at Barlows since 2009, specialises in property insurance. Her hire takes the total number of partners in RPC's insurance and reinsurance practice to 29.
