  • Ashurst rebuilds US securities team with ex-Linklaters veterans

    Ashurst has moved to rebuild its US securities practice in London after all three partners in the group handed in their notice earlier this year. The top 10 City law firm has hired two partners for the team - Linklaters corporate finance partner Ray Fisher, who is currently based in the magic circle firm's New York office, and Jennifer Schneck, who left Linklaters' London office in 2009. Both joined Ashurst this week.

  • K&L Gates boosts Tokyo arm with hire of 10-lawyer team from CC

    K&L Gates has expanded its Tokyo office with the hire of a 10-lawyer team from Clifford Chance (CC), including three partners. The team hire comes after CC moved to restructure its Tokyo office and integrate its local joint venture firm into one CC partnership. Before the restructuring, CC had around 12 partners, including the trio joining K&L Gates - Keiji Isaji, Atsushi Yamashita and Naoki Watanabe.

The two partners, who joined the firm earlier this week (1 May), both focus on the energy sector, working on project finance deals as well as related regulatory, trading and M&A matters.

    Allen & Overy (A&O) has strengthened its Frankfurt employment practice with the hire of a partner from Hogan Lovells. Hans-Peter Loew, who joined Hogan Lovells in 1996 and has been the managing partner of the firm's Frankfurt office since 2004, is set to join A&O in the coming months, with his start-date still to be finalised.

  • Pinsents adds two partners in Dubai boost

    Pinsent Masons has boosted its Middle East projects and construction team with two new partners, with one more set to relocate to the region later this year. Projects and finance specialist Simon Harvey will join Pinsents' Dubai office from Baker & McKenzie this June, while international arbitration specialist Bjorn Gehle will join in July from Clayton Utz's Sydney base. Gehle, a special counsel at the Australian firm, advises on infrastructure and construction projects, international trade, energy and resources as well as corporate disputes.

    Nabarro has recruited two partners for its London headquarters with a double hire from Pinsent Masons and Reed Smith. The new additions, George Lubega and Philip Olmer, will join Nabarro next month (3 May) in the City law firm's commercial litigation and real estate practices respectively. Litigator Lubega is joining from Pinsents as the 27th partner in Nabarro's commercial disputes practice. He specialises in commercial litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution, and acts for a number of corporate clients and government departments.

    Allen & Overy (A&O) has reviewed its lateral partner hiring programme over the last seven years, with the firm retaining more than 90% of the partners it brought in over the period. The magic circle firm's research, which comes against a backdrop of increasing numbers of UK and US firms taking a detailed look at their lateral hiring record, found A&O has brought in 95 partners over the last seven years, 19 of whom were hired for the firm's Australia launch last year. Of the total, only nine have departed.
