When Orange and T-Mobile announced in July that they would review their line-up of legal advisers in the wake of their merger to become Everything Everywhere, the newly-formed company's general counsel James Blendis (formerly head of legal at T-Mobile) was keen to stress that the new panel would include barristers chambers as well as law firms. Blendis told Legal Week at the time: "We have had success instructing directly to the Bar in the past and would be keen to continue working in this way with the larger group of internal lawyers."

US duo lead for Terra Firma and Citi as judge sets trial date for £4bn EMI dispute

The dispute between Terra Firma and Citigroup over the buyout house's £4bn acquisition of EMI Group can proceed to trial, a US judge has ruled. The private equity giant has alleged that Citi inflated the value of EMI by not revealing that rival bidder Cerberus had withdrawn from the auction. Terra Firma claims that this was a key factor in its bid of 265p a share for the music publishing company.

Wragge & Co has added to its City office with the hire of Barlow Lyde & Gilbert's London head of international arbitration. Peter Flint is set to join Wragges next month as the firm's new head of international arbitration and the twelfth partner in its commercial litigation team. Greenberg partner quits to open own firm just six months after joining to launch US office

A former Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan litigator has launched his own firm, just six months after opening a San Franciso office for Greenberg Traurig, reports The Recorder. Ex-Quinn Emanuel partner Samuel Shepherd announced the launch of the new practice, Sam Shepherd Law, last week. On his move to Greenberg in February this year, Shepherd said: "I don't think we looked at things hard enough or talked to the right people."

Tugendhat QC appointed to succeed Eady as senior libel judge

Mr Justice Tugendhat has been appointed as the new senior libel and privacy judge at the Queen's Bench Division, succeeding Mr Justice Eady. Eady has completed two terms in office since his appointment in 2004, with Tugendhat appointed for a three-year term as the judge in charge of the jury list, beginning on 1 October. He will be responsible for managing work on the court's lists concerning defamation, privacy and clinical negligence and assigning judges to each case.

DLA set to take legal action against Formula 1 team for unpaid fees

DLA Piper is taking legal action against Formula 1 team Hispania Racing for unpaid legal fees dating back to early 2009. Hispania, the first-ever Spanish F1 team, entered the competition this year following a deal that saw it taken over by Spanish financier Jose Ramon Carabante. The team, formerly known as Campos Meta, was founded by ex-F1 driver Adrian Campos and its current drivers include Bruno Senna, the nephew of former world champion Ayrton Senna.
