MoD review set to cut two firms from coveted UK projects panel

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has launched a review of its projects panel, with the overhaul set to see two UK law firms trimmed from the eight-strong roster. Law firms have been invited to tender for the coveted panel, which covers the body's public private partnership and private finance initiative (PFI) work, by the end of October. The four-year contracts are to be awarded in January.

Allen & Overy and BLP take lead roles on Nomura City move

Allen & Overy (A&O) and Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) have landed key advisory roles as Japanese banking giant Nomura prepares to move into new premises in the City. The pair have advised on a 20-year lease arrangement, likely to be the largest UK office letting in 2009, which gives Nomura a six-year rent-free period on the newly-constructed Watermark Place building near Cannon Street.

Italian firm NCTM has completed its tie-up with real estate boutique DS&P with the arrival of administrative law partner Marco Antonio Monaco. Linklaters reappoints White as global projects chief for new term

Linklaters has reappointed Bruce White as the firm's global head of projects for a second four-year term. White, who has been a partner at the magic circle firm since 1995, was first appointed as projects chief in 2005, replacing Alan Black, who had spent 12 years in the role. Since then the practice has grown to a total of 150 lawyers, and this year topped the global projects rankings at the half-year point, according to research from Infrastructure Journal.

Burges Salmon is set to launch its second redundancy consultation this year, with 31 jobs under threat. The firm announced today (24 August) that up to 27 support roles could go following a business services staffing review which began in March. In addition, the firm is also consulting on four fee earner roles in its property practice as a result of the ongoing market slowdown. Both redundancy consultations will formally commence next week.
