Intel Shows Off New Technology for Companies

Chip maker Intel, trying to stave off further encroachment by rival Advanced Micro Devices, showed off a new product designed to help businesses automate the management of large fleets of personal computers. Intel vPro will make it easier for computer administrators to fix problems remotely over the network, Intel CEO Paul Otellini said Monday. VPro, which includes a combination of chips and software, also helps safeguard machines against computer viruses and other types of malicious software.

Promoters of China's controversial wireless encryption system on Tuesday accused backers of a rival U.S. system of "dirty tricks" after the world industrial standards group rejected the Chinese system for global use. China is promoting WAPI in an effort to reduce reliance on foreign technology and give its companies a competitive edge. Members of the International Organization for Standardization rejected WAPI in favor of the American standard known as 802.11i, the Geneva-based group said Monday.
