Career Clinic: Will China connections help me land a job at a big firm?

"I am currently undertaking a training contract at a top 50 law firm outside of the City. As I speak Mandarin, I could be a good asset for an international firm looking to expand into the China market, but I'm wondering if I have restricted myself in my career options, especially since my current firm is not a massive player in the corporate/commercial market. Coupled with this, a clause in my TC restricts me from leaving until after one year post-qualification, and if I spend that year practising in something unrelated to corporate/commercial work, I am worried that I will not be able to make a switch at all.

According to data published by Ernst & Young, cross-border deals accounted for 72% of the total funds raised on the top four exchanges - Hong Kong, London, New York Stock Exchange and National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (NASDAQ) - in 2009.
