Linklaters partner duo quit to launch competition boutique in Stockholm

Two Linklaters competition partners have left the firm's Stockholm and Hong Kong offices to set up their own boutique in Sweden. The new boutique, launched by Stockholm partner Kent Karlsson and Hong Kong partner Erik Soederlind, went live yesterday (1 November) under the name Kastell. Both partners joined Linklaters' Swedish competition practice in 2001 through its merger with local firm Lagerloef & Leman. Soederlind later relocated to the firm's Hong Kong office in 2008 to become head of competition and antitrust in Asia - a position he held at the time of his departure.

Patchy regulation raises queries over Chinese imports

Portuguese independent Morais Leitao Galvao Teles Soares da Silva & Asociados has strengthened its position in Asia with an alliance in mainland China. The firm has joined forces with Macau law firm MdME in a formal alliance, in a bid to capitalise on outbound investments in Portuguese-speaking countries by Chinese investors. The move marks the third formal international alliance for Morais Leitao, coming on the back of an alliance formed in Brazil in 2006, and another in Angola earlier this year.

Macfarlanes advises Singapore billionaire on £360m Liverpool counter-offer

Macfarlanes has become the latest law firm to take a role on the protracted Liverpool takeover saga, representing a Singapore billionaire who has lodged an improved bid for the Premier League club. The City law firm is advising Peter Lim, who has made an increased £360m offer after last week losing out to US sports group New England Sport Ventures (NESV), whose £300m bid was accepted by the club's board. The new bid values the club at £320m, with a further £40m made available to purchase new players.
