Ex-Coudert partners face $12m bill to settle bankruptcy

Former partners at Coudert Brothers will need to pay about $12m (£6.02m) to help liquidate the defunct law firm according to a plan produced by an examiner in the firm's bankruptcy, writes the National Law Journal. In a report issued on 27 March, court-appointed examiner Harrison Goldin determined that former Coudert partners should pay $11.8m (£5.92m) in exchange for liability release from creditors and the firm itself, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after a mass exodus of partners.

Asia booms and London holds ground as IPOs slow in 2007

City partners focusing on London's Alternative Investment Market (AIM) are watching the market closely after the volume of initial public offerings (IPOs) fell by 32% during 2007. PricewaterhouseCoopers' (PwC's) 2007 annual IPO report - released last month - revealed that AIM saw 220 IPOs in 2007, compared with 325 in 2006, resulting in a drop in value of E4bn (£3bn) to hit E9.5bn (£7.5bn). The fall in activity meant money raised in the London markets as a whole generally fell by 7% to E39.08bn (£31bn).

French independent takes Asia team from rival

UGGC & Associes, the French ally of UK national giant Addleshaw Goddard, has extended its reach overseas after taking on the entire Asian practice of domestic rival Adamas. The deal adds 25 lawyers and branches in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Taipei to UGGC's network of offices, which also includes outposts in Brussels and Casablanca. Adamas partners Franck Desevedavy, Olivier Dubuis, Olivier Lefebure, Alina Quach and Arnaud Depierrefeu all transfer to UGGC as part of the move.
