HP appoints new Euro GC

Computer giant Hewlett Packard (HP) has appointed Joyce Norcini as its new regional general counsel for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Norcini has replaced Eric Herkens in the role and will now lead a team of 100 lawyers and support staff across the region. Norcini joined HP in 1997 as a commercial and competition lawyer and was most recently HP's deputy general counsel in the company's technology solutions group.

Ashurst has strengthened its French projects practice with the hire of Orrick Rambaud Martel finance partner Sylvie Perrin. Perrin, who joined the French arm of the City firm on Monday (16 April), focuses on project finance as well as asset finance and tax leasing. Prior to joining legacy firm Rambaud Martel - which merged with San Francisco giant Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe in January 2006 - Perrin was an associate with Watson Farley & Williams. She was admitted to the Paris Bar in 1997.

Linklaters Paris partner Michel Frieh has announced he is to leave the firm to set up his own practice. Frieh, a private equity specialist who joined the magic circle firm in 2004 from the local arm of Willkie Farr & Gallagher, will leave Linklaters at the end of May. The magic circle giant has promoted Paris-based private equity associate David Swinburne to the partnership from 1 May to plug the gap.

Latham was instructed last month to advise Enel - Italy's largest power company - on the acquisition financing aspects of its €35bn (£23.8bn) joint offer with Acciona for a 46% stake in Endesa - an offer that was made earlier this week (11 April).
