Counsel slams "excessive" Proskauer and Dewey fees on MF Global bankruptcy

Fee requests filed by Proskauer Rose and legacy Dewey & LeBoeuf in the administration of derivatives broker MF Global have been labelled "excessive" in a US court. In an objection filed yesterday, a counsel to the administration rejected the applications and recommended Proskauer reduce its fee from $5m (£3.1m) to $3.25m (£2m) and Dewey drop its request from $3.75m (£2.3m) to $3m (£1.9m).

Dechert's top City earner netted £2.9m in profits in 2012, according to accounts filed for the firm's UK limited liability partnership (LLP). However, the Companies' House filing states that despite considerable year-on-year increases in profit and income, 2012's highest grossing partner took home 7% less than the previous year, when one partner was entitled to a £3.1m profit share.

Ashurst's dispute resolution partner Ben Tidswell (pictured) has been elected as the new chair of Ashurst, replacing current senior partner Charlie Geffen in the firm's top management position. Tidswell - who will take up the role from 1 November - ran against Geffen and legacy Blakes competition and consumer protection partner Peter Armitage. Voting closed at 12pm yesterday (Tuesday) and it is understood that Tidswell won the support of the majority of partners in the first round of voting.
