Cuatrecasas launches new office with Malaga merger deal

Cuatrecasas Goncalves Pereira has opened a new office in Malaga through a merger with local boutique Romero & Robles. Founding partners Francisco Romero and Jorge Robles will head up the new base for Cuatrecasas, with Romero taking the managing partner role. Robles previously worked at Cuatrecasas between 1999 and 2006 before setting up the boutique along with Romero after a short stint at law firm RL in Malaga in 2007.

Ashurst corporate head steps down as firm names global practice chief

Ashurst corporate head Adrian Clark has stepped down from his role as the firm appoints Stephen Lloyd to the newly-created position of global head of corporate. Lloyd, the former managing partner of the London corporate department, will take up the new role of global head of corporate, which will see him lead the firm's corporate strategy as well as overseeing the day-to-day running of the global corporate practice. At the same time, fellow corporate partner Simon Beddow has been appointed to the new role of European managing partner of corporate.

Squire Sanders' Japanese arm merges with local law firm

Squire Sanders & Dempsey has bulked up its Asian arm through a merger with Japanese firm Miki & Yoshida Law and Patent Office. The firm originally entered into a joint enterprise with Miki & Yoshida in 2001 in order to give clients access to Japan-licensed lawyers. The agreement ended in 2005 when Japan's legal industry regulations changed. The office of the merged firm will be known as Squire Sanders Miki & Yoshida.
