The call of Callaway

Pine Mountain's largest employer beckoned me last month to play golf at one of Georgia's prettiest little resorts not on the coast. Callaway Gardens came calling. I remember this place. The wildflowers, the wide-open terrain, the allure of playing golf in nature's pristine beauty. This is a place where 5-wood meets tranquility.

I thought of the cries of the colicky baby that probably echoed off the stone and brick walls and bounced off the 13-foot-high ceilings. I looked at the massive 6-foot-by-10-foot window on the west wall and imagined the afternoon sun shining through, warming the spacious baby's room.

The Masters Calcutta

Gambling on the Masters is a Southern tradition, like pimento cheese on white bread. I know because I have been around the culture of the Masters for three decades. Each year, when the world's best golfers tee it up at Augusta National Golf Club, as they did earlier this month, money flows in Georgia like Rae's Creek after an April downpour.
