Swedish firm Magnusson has hired former Sony Ericsson general counsel Per Hendar as part of an expansion drive that has also seen the firm form an alliance in Belarus. Hendar, who has joined Magnusson from Swedish rival Wistrand, will head the firm's new Gothenburg base, launched last week (1 October). Before joining Wistrand as a partner, Hendar was general counsel and corporate vice president of Sony Ericsson between 2001 and 2005.

Eversheds has won a E1bn (£912m) infrastructure mandate in Kosovo as the country moves to improve transport connections with its neighbouring nations. The 120km Morine to Merdare motorway project marks the largest investment by the Kosovo Government in 20 years and will connect the country with neighbouring Serbia, as well as Albania and the Adriatic coast.

Uria Menendez has boosted its Madrid base with the hire of Clifford Chance's (CC's) former Spanish senior partner Jaime de San Roman. De San Roman, who also headed CC's Spanish banking and finance practice, left the magic circle firm at the end of July without announcing his next move. The Madrid-based partner had been senior partner for two years at the time of his departure, and also previously served as Spain co-managing partner between 2001 and 2007.

De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek has appointed a new managing partner, with competition partner Martijn Snoep set to replace Mark Biesheuvel at the helm of the Dutch firm. The appointment, made last week (24 September), will take effect from the beginning of 2010, when Snoep will start a four-year term. Biesheuvel, who has served one term in the post which he took up in 2006, will return to full-time fee earning in the litigation practice.
