    On Sept. 2, the Pennsylvania House approved changes to the state's new mail-in voting law. The bill, which was authored by Republican legislators, was passed 112-90 on a nearly party-line vote.

    Gov. Wades Into Securing Elections as Legislative Efforts Face Partisan Divide

    While Republican state Senate leaders have introduced a bill they said is aimed at fixing glitches in the state's new mail-in voting law, it was quickly met with opposition from Democrats. At the same time Gov. Tom Wolf has urged state lawmakers to quickly pass his plan for safe and secure elections.

    Wolf Urges Lawmakers to Legalize Recreational Marijuana

    In releasing his fall agenda Aug. 25, Gov. Tom Wolf asked lawmakers to pass a bill legalizing recreational marijuana for adults. Wolf's proposal would direct the tax revenue from the sale of the drug to programs to help repair what he has called "the harm done to crime victims and communities as a result of marijuana criminalization."

    House Committee Approves Bills on School Reopening

    The state House of Representatives Education Committee on Aug. 20 approved two bills aimed at reaffirming school districts' authority to make decisions about athletic activities, and allowing parents and students to continue in school for an extra year to make up for deficiencies caused by COVID-related closures.

    Health Department Recommends Youth Sports Postponed Until 2021
