French independent opens China office early

The new Shanghai office of Paris independent Lefevre Pelletier & Associes has opened ahead of schedule, with the launch having initially been planned for September. The office is managed by corporate partner and Asia head Paul-Emmanuel Benachi and will advise on matters including investment, M&A, restructuring and infrastructure projects. This is the third office in Asia for the French firm, which opened in Hong Kong in 1998 and Guangzhou in 2005.

Taylor Wessing is set to launch an office in Beijing, having been granted a license to practise in the city earlier this month. Munich-based investments partner Christoph Hezel will relocate to Beijing to manage the office. Law network Lex Mundi adds Hong Kong member

The Lex Mundi network has expanded to Hong Kong, choosing the province's oldest firm, Deacons, as its new member. With around 250 fee earners, Deacons is the largest independent firm in Hong Kong. The firm, established in 1851, has a full-service focus including banking and finance, communications and technology, construction and arbitration, corporate finance and capital markets.Deacons' senior partner Lilian Chiang commented: "We are very pleased that our firm has been admitted as a member of Lex Mundi. Membership in this global organisation will enhance our ability to serve our clients' growing international needs."
